Trailer: Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in ‘Creed II’
“Creed II” finds Adonis Creed (Jordan) preparing to step into the ring with Viktor Drago, son of the infamous boxer Ivan Drago. The match forces Stallone’s Rocky Balboa to relive the legacy of his own fight against Ivan (once again played by Dolph Lundgren), which was the center of 1985’s “Rocky IV.” Creed, meanwhile, has to once again carve his on way out of his father’s shadow.
In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Jordan explained why his character’s adversary, Viktor, is an essential new addition to the boxing franchise. “The two guys are similar in a lot of ways,” said the actor. “Adonis feels, naturally, a certain animosity towards Viktor and Ivan, and then there are other themes in there: the maturity of growth, the importance of family, of legacy, is what makes ‘Creed’ so special. It’s not just about revenge. It’s about a lot of things.”
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer will open “Creed II” in theaters nationwide November 21.
